I’m winding down right now on my final month in Charleston, after 13 years in this city and almost 10 years of being involved in the music scene here. By this time next month I’ll be on my way to Austin. It’s not time for nostalgia, we’re just going to keep it moving, and try to grow.
Local Scenes Forum in Community
Last week, I added the Local Scenes section to our forum. This is a space for people in local music scenes everywhere to gather and collaborate. We have two subforums so far, one for the Charleston music scene and another for Austin, which is still empty because I haven’t gotten there yet.
I hope to grow this part of our website to create vibrant space that people truly gain value from. People can use it to find bands to play with in other cities, discuss local shows and happenings, and share anything about a given local scene.
This idea aligns with the previously added Locations taxonomy to our website, and will be expanded upon even more in the future.
Join and contribute to our very own “online music scene”!
Events Calendar Expansion
Soon, our live music calendar will feature events from more than just Charleston. Users will be able to filter the events based on their chosen city. This way, it will become a valuable resource for people everywhere. I will start by adding Austin, of course, but after that, there is really no limit. I am very close to getting this working properly and it will be launched in the next week or two.
Post Malone Concert Review
Post Malone’s F-1 Trillion tour stopped through Charleston last week and Extra Chill was in attendance. He brought out local legend Darius Rucker for two songs. My review is here and includes the clip of “Wagon Wheel” I shared on Instagram.
Jay Hurtt of Little Bird Interview
I had a great conversation with Jay Hurtt of Little Bird a few weeks back about his move to Los Angeles and what he learned about the music industry in the process. He’s got a newfound love for the “scene” and his friends, and there’s new music on the way. Read our full interview here.
Train Songz Radio Show
Our friends at Train Songz, the Billy Strings and bluegrass fan zine, released their fourth edition zine and started a radio show called “Train Songz Presents.” Each episode features a different band performing a live set that starts and ends with a train song. Buffalo Galaxy, jamgrass out of Minneapolis was up first. I’ll be keeping up with these in our forum as they are released.
Brave Baby 3x blood Album Release Party
Brave Baby’s 3x blood has been out for almost a month now, and it’s very solid. Their album release show was 9/20 at Lo-Fi Brewing in Charleston. I couldn’t actually make the show but Clif sent me photos anyway, and my good friend Chris Gardner, Lo-Fi bartender, filled me in on the details. The gallery and recap is here.
Bellmouth Halloween
This Saturday, October 19th is the Bellmouth Halloween at The Refinery, an immersive circus-like experience with live music from Doom Flamingo (Queen Is Doomed), Ripe, The Psycodelics, and a DJ Set from Loose Ends. I spoke with the people behind this one, and you can get the full scoop here.
